PROMISE KEEPER; A GOD WHO FULFILLS HIS PROMISES
Pr. James Victor Lubwama
2 Peter 3:9 (GW)
“The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake”
The life of Abraham the grandfather of faith offers great lessons to us this present day because we are walking the same journey of faith. He lived a very long blessed life. We are just like him because of our connection through Jesus, and we too shall live a long fruitful life. Abraham lived to witness the birth of his twin grandsons Jacob and Esau. Genesis 25:7-9 (NIV) says;
Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years. 8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people. 9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite”
When Abraham was old and without child, God had made a covenant with Him that he will make him the father of many nations (Genesis 17:1-4). Abraham paid the price when he hosted and fed the angels, and after they had eaten and were satisfied and pleased, they prophesied that Sarah would have a son. These three men were a manifestation of the trinity (God the father, Son and Holy Spirit). The price Abraham paid ushered him into his promise of being a father of many nations. (Genesis 18:1-10)
God is a God of promises and, we have seen Him fulfilling the promises of His people. He promised Abraham and Sarah a child when they had aged and lost hope, but at an appointed time, Isaac was born.  Genesis 21:1-2 (NIV) says;
Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age; at the very time God had promised him”
Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born (Genesis 21:5). As Christians today, we live and move by the promises of God and we should always wait for God’s appointed time and not go by our own timing because the Lord is not slow or late concerning His promises

Special Promises Take Time
It was long before Isaac and Rebekah bore children (Genesis 25:20-26) just like his father Abraham. Jacob and Rachel also tarried to get a child (Genesis 30:22), and so was the case with Elkanah and Hannah who took very long to have a child because the Lord had shut her womb (1 Samuel 1:1). In the same family line much later on we have Zechariah and Elizabeth who as much as they had been faithful to God, they took long to bear a child (Luke 1:6-7).
One may ask why it was quite a while before these men and women of faith had children. God had a divine purpose of bringing forth children who would change a generation. Sarah and Abraham gave birth to Isaac; Rebecca and Isaac gave birth to Jacob; Jacob and Rachael gave birth to Joseph; Elkanah and Hannah gave birth to Samuel; and Zechariah and Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist. All these were generation changers and God wanted his people to pray because the fruits that were coming forth were special.

Don’t Be Content in Captivity
Have you taken a couple of years without a job, child or a number of years with a sickness and you are no longer praying but used to or content with the situation? God does not want us to be in an oppressing situation and get contented with the circumstances to the extent of abandoning prayer. But rather we need to pray continually, and remind Him of His promises – give God no rest until He fulfills His word or prophesies (Isaiah 62:6-7). God had told Abraham that his descendants would spend 400 years in a foreign land (Genesis 15:13), but Israel ended up staying 30 extra years in captivity (Exodus 12:40) because they had gotten used to the situation and it was not until God made their enemies oppress them more that they remembered the God of their ancestors and His promises unto them. Exodus 2:23-25 (NLT) says;
Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites still groaned beneath their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their pleas for deliverance rose up to God. 24 God heard their cries and remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 25 He looked down on the Israelites and deep concern for their welfare”
When they had reached a point of desperation, they remembered the God whom they had put aside for a while. They then prayed and God brought Moses to lead them out of slavery and oppression into the Promised Land. God is waiting for someone to pray and remind Him of His promises so that He can rise up and change the situation – for He is not slow neither does He delay to do what He promised, so call upon Him

Cling Onto God’s Promises
If you have promises or prophesies upon your life but none of them has come to fruition yet and you are wondering whether God has forgotten all about you: The answer is no. For God’s promises never fail. And to see God’s promises come to life, you need to persevere in the midst of challenges.
If the Lord has given you a word through the sower and that word has not reached fruition, you need to check what type of soil you are and if there are any weeds of doubt, grumbling and unbelief, please uproot them. You must work towards being the fertile fruitful soil. The bible says in Luke 8:15 (MSG) that;
“But the seed in the good earth—these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there’s a harvest."
