4 - PLAY YOUR PART BY BEING
OBEDIENT
John
2:5 (GW)
” His mother told the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”
In
this salvation journey, if we want to see God's promises come to frution, our part is to do
what whatever the Holy Spirit commands us to do. At the wedding in Cana, Jesus’
mother informed Him that they had run out of wine and He commanded servers to
do something as seen in the scripture below. John 2:3-7 (GW)
“When the wine was
gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They’re out of wine.” 4 Jesus said to her,
“Why did you come to me? My time has not yet come.” 5 His mother told the
servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Six stone water
jars were there. They were used for Jewish purification rituals. Each jar held
18 to 27 gallons. 7 Jesus told the servers, “Fill
the jars with water.” The servers filled the jars to the brim."
Jesus
instructed the servers to fill the pots with water. Filling the pots with water
was not for Jesus to do; His part was to make the miracle happen. Had they not
obeyed, that miracle would not have happened. You want God to work for you but
when He instructs you to do something that will cause you to move into your
miracle, you give excuses – excuses is
the first step to disobedience. And obedience doesn’t happen at your own convenience
but at the convenience of the one instructing you.
Once
again we see that the servers first played their part, and after which Jesus
did the needful. However, countless times we ask such questions as; how does
water become wine? We want to know how it can become possible and that is how
the devil traps us. We want to know how God makes it happen - the procedure forgetting that He is the Almighty. Do not be disturbed by what God has instructed you to do however senseless
it may seem but be mindful that you obey and execute as instructed!
What
hinders our breakthrough is that we do not do what we are supposed to do but
instead poke our noses into what only God can do. Continue to do what God
commands of you – do what the Holy Spirit convicts you to do, don’t compromise.
Your only part is to obey and then all will be well with you. The bible says in
Isaiah 1:19 (GNT) that; “If you will only obey me, you will eat the good things the
land produces.”
God gave Abraham a child at an old age but later asked for him
as a sacrifice. Isaac was Abraham’s only child but when he obeyed God’s
command, he paid the price for his entire generation. It was a sign of
salvation that we were to receive in Jesus when God gave up his only begotten
son to die for our sins. Hebrews 11:17-18 (TLB) “While God was testing him, Abraham
still trusted in God and his promises, and so he offered up his son Isaac and
was ready to slay him on the altar of sacrifice; 18 yes, to slay even Isaac, through whom God had promised to give
Abraham a whole nation of descendants!
Listen to the bidding of the Holy Spirit, he will instruct you on
what to do where by way of conviction in your heart and when you hear that
small still voice instructing you do a particular thing, don’t try to involve
your mind by reasoning because that will lead to rebellion hence disobedience. Hebrews 3:15 (NJKV) says; “Today if you hear God’s voice speaking to you, do
not harden your hearts against him
Obedience unlocks blessings; therefore play your part by obeying what the Spirit says.
