2- PLAY YOUR PART BY PRAYING AND SERVING
GOD
Luke
1:8-13 (NLT)
“One day Zechariah was serving God in the
Temple, for his order was on duty that week………..11 while
Zechariah was in the sanctuary, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing
to the right of the incense altar. 12 Zechariah
was shaken and overwhelmed with fear when he saw him. 13 But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah!
God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you
are to name him John.”
We
see in Luke 1 that Zechariah waited upon the Lord – by praying and serving; he
was without child and yet continued to diligently serve God. Even with this
challenge he obediently performed his role; and as he went about playing his
part, He received a Rhema word while in the temple going about his ministry as
we can see in the scripture above. We serve a mighty God who knows what we go
through and what we need or desire. We don’t serve Him in vain, because when we
serve Him in truth, He surely takes care of our needs. The answer to your
problem or breakthrough in your life will find you when you are serving God. We
don’t wait upon the Lord by folding our hands, but by being proactive in prayer
and service or ministry.
What
are you doing for God in your local church? How is your profession, business or
career serving God? Are you servant or spectator? Continue
to do what you are supposed to do; it’s
in serving God that we are fulfilled because when you take care of God’s needs, He inturn takes care of yours. Therefore, as you wait upon the Lord, continue performing
your duties in the church as expected of you.
Luke
2:36-38 (NLT) says;
“Anna, a
prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel from the
tribe of Asher, and she was very old. Her husband died when they had been
married only seven years. 37 Then she lived
as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting
and prayer. 38 she
came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began
praising God. She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting
expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem.”
In
the scripture above, Anna longed to see what Isaiah had prophesied come to
pass. She served God and prayed day and night and did not return home until she
accomplished whatever she was supposed to. What took Anna to the temple? Prayer
– she sought God about prophesy concerning the Saviour. Anna knew that she had
to play a certain part for the prophesy to be realised; and when she saw that
the prophesy had come to pass – birth of Jesus, she returned home. She played
her part by praying and interceding for Israel, and reminding God about the His
promise; and at the right time, God brought it forth.
We have received
prophesies and Rhema words about our lives and careers but we have done nothing
about it. Once the word has been spoken we just sit back and relax without
doing a thing about. Remember that there are principalities and powers of
darkness that hinder which was spoken forth; there are ancestral spirits
that prevent your children from excelling, that are delaying your promotion and etc; and those are things we have to
render powerless and reverse in prayer. (Daniel 10:10-14)
The reason we have Friday overnight and morning prayer altar services at MCFM is to destroy the tactics of the devil. Prayer
with others is more effective than praying alone – The bible says in Leviticus
26:8 (NKJV) that; “Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred
of you shall put ten thousand to flight”
That means the more we are
in prayer, the more evil spirits we chase or defeat.
In every promise or word that God has
declared upon your life, there is a part you have to play.
