THE FIVE STONES OF DAVID
Pr. James Victor Lubwama
1 Samuel 17:40 (NIV)
Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his Shepherd's bag and with his sling in his hand, he approached the Philistine”
The stones that David picked refer to the word of God that we receive and keep in our heart. Psalm 119:11(ESV) says: I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
The stream where David picked the stones represents the Holy Spirit. Psalms 46:4 (NIV) says; There is a river whose streams make the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells”.
1 Samuel 17:49 (ESV)
"And David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground".
David applied the Rhema word from the Holy Spirit to defeat the devil; It took one stone to defeat Goliath (Goliath represents problems, challenges, temptations etc.). In every situation, you need to use the right word applicable to that situation – the bible is filled with scriptures applicable to every facet of life. You need to know God's plan and purpose for your life and you can only discover this in His word - what does God say about you?
Among the 5 stones, David used only one stone to defeat Goliath because it was the most applicable in that situation. In face of hard situations, don't make hurried decisions but rather find out what God's word says about that challenge, problem or situation.
The bible says in Leviticus 26:7 (NIV) that; “You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by your sword before you”
You need to be knowledgeable in the word of God in order for you to use it. The sword is the word of God. You cannot use weapons that are not stored in your armoury - heart. The level of revelation also depends on the measure stored and your strength as a Christian is equivalent to the amount of scriptures stored in your heart. The bible says in Proverbs 7:2-3 (TLB)
“Obey me and live! Guard my words as your most precious possession. 3 Write them down, and also keep them deep within your heart.”
Therefore, learnstudy and meditate on the word of God and it will be stored in your heart; and when the devil awakens, you will be in position to fight a good fight and overcome
